Can a relatively small (?) $14B+ business compete against a giant $400B+ business. Yes, in the midwest it can. Meijer is a 197+ supercenter chain with origins in western Michigan. In fact….Meijer pioneered the supercenter concept in the US. As a privately held business it has not strayed from its midwest base.

Yet, as Wal-Mart expanded….Meijer had to compete directly with Wal-Mart. In the following article….Meijer has provided competition to Wal-Mart and is committed to growing its business.

The real lesson: Competition makes a business better….when a business knows its market,,,,,it can compete against a giant.
