I was watching a reality TV program about two different companies. In previous episoides….one of the businesses had an unusualy toxic environment. Eventually, the founder and founder’s son each went on with their own separate businesses.
In the latest episode….the product designer (in the father’s business) had a meltdown….he was unhappy that his design was critiqued. So he goes out into the shop….throwing the product of the manufacturing platform….carrying on. Toxic situation if there ever was one….though probably good tv!
The comment by one of his coworkers was telling: He did not have respect for his coworkers and their efforts to make a good product.
Managing/leading people is a challenge….the true reward is when the mission of the organization is accomplished well….with everyone working with the same purpose….not in a toxic environment.
