Finding a Market

Muskegon County Wastewater System

Businesses are the economic engine of any community….however, the processing of wastewater is probably not a highlight of most communities.

Built in 1973, to address growing environmental concerns, the Muskegon County Wastewater Management System (MCWMS) can treat up to 43 million gallons of wastewater per day from 16 municipalities using a biological treatment followed by slow-rate irrigation and rapid sand filtration

The MCWMS was and still is an innovative approach to processing wastewater and many communities would want such a system. At 43 million gallons/per day, the system is far from capacity. A major user, The Sappi Paper Mill closed several years ago….thus the renewed marketing effort for the system.

The MCWMS is a valuable asset….that is and can be of even greater benefit to Muskegon County.
